That’s right, you read right! CHEVRON Peanut Butter Bars! As many of you know, Polish Boutique LOVES Some Chevy! Just look at all of the Chevron we have in our store and on our site! Well, NOW we can ingest chevron into our bodies via our mouth. Ok, that sounded weird. Seriously, though.. it’s true what they say, “You eat with your eyes and then your mouth.” So why not make all food beautiful! From the blog, Never Home Maker we bring you Chevron Goodness –

So, I got to thinking last night: What about bringing chevron to food?

I followed this simple recipe on Taste of Home for the chewy peanut butter cookie bars. But I made the following substitutions:

  • Instead of butter, I used Earth Balance
  • Instead of 1 cup white flour, I used 1/3 cup whole wheat and 2/3 cup all-purpose
  • Instead of 1-1/2 cups white sugar, I used 1/2 brown sugar and 1 cup Sugar in the Raw
  • Instead of using 2 eggs, I used Ener-G replacer for two eggs

The recipe really isn’t what’s so special. It’s all in the details. After I mixed together everything for the bars and poured the batter into my baking dish, I worked some magic with Reese’s Pieces.

First, I separated the colors of the Reese’s Pieces to make the color-blocking easier.
Then, I used a piece of plastic wrap to get the top of the cookie dough smooth.
I traced my chevron pattern onto the dough with a small knife. It took a few tries to get it “right” . . .
And the tricky part is applying the candy. Take your time. Follow your guides, but you may find eventually that you’re not on them anymore. Just be patient and it’ll work. I promise!

After about 10 to 15 minutes, it looked like this:

I left one zig-zag naked because I had special plans for it. Into the oven at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes. Meanwhile, I crushed some leftover Pieces and melted some semi-sweet chocolate chips with a bit of Earth Balance for the naked section.

Once the dish had cooled (about an hour or so), I finger-painted the chocolate on and spooned on the crushed Pieces.

Not exactly as cool as I thought it would look, so if I do it again, I’ll likely just continue the theme atop the entire batch. Here’s a closer-up view.

In the end, I think it turned out pretty great. Removing the bars from the dish is another issue entirely. I didn’t wait long enough and mine fell apart. I think some more experimentation with recipes is in order. Still, bringing chevron to food was fun and easy. I’d definitely bring this dish to a party!

What a beautiful and easy recipe. Who doesn’t love Reese’s Pieces but this has got me thinking of the many possibilities that one could have in using M&M’s!
